Aims
Our teaching and learning design in General Studies is based on education research findings and with a student-centred approach. It is a brightening and attractive curriculum tailor-made for our boys who are naturally energetic, active, explorative, and curious. We place particular focus on merging the concept of “Science, Technology, Engineering, Visual Arts and Maths” (STEAM) to enhance the teaching and learning of science and technology. And we go further to develop students’ learning in informational technology and coding.
Features
Cantonese as the medium of instruction
We added into our regular curriculum“project work”,“collaborative learning”,“current issue learning”,“daily habit learning”, and“science and technology creative learning”.
We provide diversified and appropriate learning experiences, such as participating in gardening, General Studies Day, inter-schools contests, visiting outside exhibitions, interviewing public figures in various fields, joining Chinese cultural day-camps and study tours in Mainland China.
Our “Dream Workshop”has been recognized in the education field. We will continue to refine the curriculum to design a cutting-edge STEAM curriculum that involves, for examples, robot coding, 3D design and printing. These are to stimulate students’ creativity and innovation and ultimately lead to applicability for daily use.
For P.1 and 2, we implement a school-based curriculum called “Ying Wa Explorers”, giving up on the use of traditional textbooks and cancelling paper assessments. It is a very popular curriculum among parents.
We have invited Prof So Wing Mui, Winnie (Professor, Department of Science and Environmental Studies; Director of Centre for Education in Environmental Sustainability) to be the consultant of our department.
